Third-Party Access Fees
During the course of research on your applicants, we may need to access data from sources that charge an additional fee for us to access their data.
There are several types of organizations that tend to charge these fees, including (but not limited to):
- County & State Courts
- Outsourced employment verifiers, such as:
- Payroll record holders, such as The Work Number and other aggregators of payroll data
- Call centers that specialize in contacting employers
- Consumer-Permissioned Verification (CPV) providers, which use bank-grade technology to connect an applicant's individual payroll records directly to BrightScreen
- Outsourced education verifiers
- Individual school fees charged by the registrar
- Education record holders, such as The National Student Clearinghouse (NSCH) and other aggregators of payroll data
- Motor vehicle departments (DMV/RMV/etc.)

Does BrightScreen mark up these fees?
No, every third-party fee is passed to you at cost. No markups.
How can I prevent, minimize, or eliminate these fees?
When you place an order for certain types of searches, the BrightScreen App or a team member will ask you up front how you would like us to proceed if we encounter a third-party fee:
- Incur fees as we encounter them,
- Ask when we encounter fees, or
- Avoid fees as possible
BrightScreen may be able to complete verifications using other processes, avoiding outsource fees. Examples of these processes are:
Criminal Court Records:
- Advise you of a "No Record Found" result from the 🔗 National Net search (note: the National Net has limitations. See the linked article for more information)
Employment:
- Utilize our call centers to attempt a phone verification
- Use emerging technologies such as Consumer-Permissioned Verification (CPV)
Education:
- Utilize our call centers to attempt a phone verification
Alternative research methods may incur additional costs, but are generally less expensive than using a third-party source.
Can I dispute a third-party fee with BrightScreen?
